Hari 6 - Mulai Universitas

Today was the first day of university classes.  We were divided into small groups and tested in how we could speak Indonesian, then placed in an appropriate ability group.

We also had to meet the Indonesian equivalent of a Vice - Chancellor.  In Indonesia this role is called the "Rektor".  The "Rektor" at SDR has a mixed role, as he looks after the university and is also a Catholic priest.

In the afternoon it started to poor down again and Kym and I had to quickly run to "Toko Merah" (A stationary shop).  Neither of us had an umbrella, so we got soaked.  Here we brought many resources for school and I purchased an umbrella. A necessity for life in Yogya.  We then caught a "Becak" as the weather had cleared.  A Becak is a bike with 3 wheels that has a seat on the front.  Kym and I helped each other bargain the price down to Rp. 15 000, then decided to give the Becak driver his original asking price and an Australian key ring.  We spent the rest of the afternoon in Gramedia, buying yet more resources for school.
