Hari Sabtu Kami pergi ke Kota Solo – Field trip to Solo

On Saturday we went to Solo.  Solo is another town to the south of Yoygakarta. While in Solo, we went to the Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta (the Sultan’s Palace).  Inside the Keraton there were a number of Greek statues.  I took a photo of the Greek statue Justice, as Alan De Botton talks about the Greek Goddess Justice, when describe the philosopher Seneca’s teachings.  The lower sections of the trees inside the palace have been painted white, as this stops insects eating them.  There is also a museum inside the palace that contains many interesting objects such as shadow puppets and pictures of past Sultans.  After this we went to a batik museum and learnt about the process of making batik and how it is worn differently in Solo compared to Yoygakarta.
